Therapeutic whisking (vihtakylvetys) 90 €

Therapeutic whisking or vihta treatment (vihtakylvetys) is rooted in traditional Baltic Finnic sauna heritage. It involves the rhythmic and therapeutic use of a leafy whisk, most often made from birch branches.

Therapeutic whisking is a gentle yet effective sauna treatment in which the body is treated using a bundle of fresh branches (vihta or vasta) with various techniques. The whisking stimulates circulation, relaxes the muscles, and opens the body to the effects of sauna heat. At the same time, the natural essential oils from the leaves are released through heat and steam (löyly), bringing the scent of the forest and the healing power of nature into the sauna.

The treatment may include whisks made from different tree species and various techniques such as gentle tapping, pressing, brushing, flicking, and moving the steam with the whisk (air whisking). The treatment is never harsh or painful.

Traditionally, therapeutic whisking has been believed to:

  • relax muscles and the body

  • stimulate blood circulation

  • open breathing and the body’s energy flow

  • support recovery from physical strain

  • calm the nervous system

  • strengthen the connection to nature and one’s own body

For many people, therapeutic whisking is a deeply relaxing and restorative experience, where the sauna, the steam (löyly) and the rhythmic touch of the whisk help the body release tension.

In Finnish tradition, the sauna has been much more than a place for washing. It has been a sacred space where people have given birth, cared for the sick, prepared the deceased, and carried out various treatments such as cupping, massage, and whisking.

Traditional sauna practices are an integral part of Finnish sauna culture and folk healing heritage.

Peat treatment 80 € / person
(2-6 persons)

Peat treatment is a natural therapy that uses therapeutic peat to support overall wellbeing and skin care. The biologically active compounds found in peat may help relax muscles, improve circulation, and support the body’s metabolism.

Therapeutic peat binds and helps remove impurities from the body while supporting the skin’s natural functions. The warmth and natural components of peat help relax the body and support its own recovery processes.

Effects of the treatment may include:

  • improved blood circulation and metabolism

  • relief of muscle tension and bodily pain

  • reduced coldness in hands and feet

  • relief of swelling

  • softer, more hydrated, and more elastic skin

  • balanced sebum production

Peat treatment is often used to support muscle recovery, relieve various rheumatic symptoms, and ease pain and tension in the body.

Therapeutic peat contains natural bioactive compounds that may soothe the skin and support its regeneration. Good results have been achieved in the treatment of various skin conditions with peat therapy.

Peat treatment is often used to support:

  • acne care

  • soothing of atopic skin

  • relief of psoriasis symptoms

  • scalp health

In addition, peat can calm the skin in cases such as insect bites, plant-related skin irritation, or other forms of skin irritation. It stimulates skin cell activity and helps accelerate the skin’s recovery.

Peat treatment often leaves the skin softer, well-moisturized, and more elastic. The treatment helps balance the skin’s sebum production and supports its natural functions.

From a hormonal perspective, peat treatment may help with menopausal symptoms, painful menstruation, and hormonally related cellulite.

The therapeutic peat I use is from Polar True Oy. More information: Polar True

Wet cupping 140 €
Dry cupping 70 €

Wet cupping therapy is a centuries-old traditional treatment that has been part of Finnish sauna culture and folk healing practices. In Finland, written references to cupping date back to the 16th century, and it has long been used as part of traditional healthcare. Traditionally, cuppers were often women who learned the practice through an apprenticeship system passed down from one generation to the next.

There are two types of cupping: Wet cupping and dry cupping. In dry cupping, cups are placed on the skin without incisions, and the suction stimulates blood circulation and the movement of tissue fluids.

In wet cupping, the cups are placed on the skin and small superficial incisions are made underneath them, allowing a small amount of blood to be released. The vacuum created by the cup helps relieve pressure accumulated in the tissues and activates surface circulation.

Traditionally, wet cupping is performed in connection with a sauna. The heat of the sauna warms the body, improves surface circulation, and relaxes the muscles before treatment. The therapy uses acupuncture and trigger points on the body, aiming to influence pain, tension, and pressure built up in the tissues. Cupping is thought to work both as a form of stimulation at these points and by releasing pressure through the suction created by the cups.

Traditionally, cupping has been used to help relieve, for example:

  • neck and shoulder tension

  • back and muscle pain

  • headaches and migraines

  • muscle and joint problems

  • circulation-related symptoms

  • muscle strain caused by physical activity

For many people, wet cupping is both therapeutic and deeply relaxing, combining the warmth of the sauna, the cleansing of the body, and a traditional healing method.

In Finland, cupping remains part of a living folk healing tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation.

Today, wet cupping is performed by trained practitioners, and treatments follow modern hygiene and safety standards. My own working methods are approved by Valvira.

Sauna therapist and
Traditional sauna healer

The sauna has been the heart of Finnish culture for thousands of years. It has served as a gateway between our world and the spiritual realm. It is a sacred space where life’s most significant moments have met—from birth to death. In the sauna, people have cleansed themselves both physically and spiritually, and in its warmth, they have felt a connection to their ancestors as well as to nature.

My role is to preserve this valuable cultural heritage and bring its healing power into the present day. In my work, I combine traditional knowledge with modern wellness expertise, offering unique sauna experiences and treatments.

Education

I graduated as a traditional sauna healer in autumn 2025.

I will graduate as a sauna therapist in June 2026. My final thesis focused on special cupping points.
